Council Signs Self-Government Treaty with Canada

On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, Chief Darcy Bear, Councillor Dwayne Eagle, Councillor Frank Royal, and the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations signed A Self-Government Treaty Recognizing the Whitecap Dakota Nation / Wapaha Ska Dakota Oyate. 

Co-developed by Canada and Whitecap Dakota Nation, this Treaty recognizes the Whitecap Dakota Nation as one of the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada, affirming their inherent right to self-government under the Constitution Act, 1982. Whitecap...

5th Annual Dakota Language Gathering Coming in May!

We are excited to announce the 5th Annual Spring Dakota Language Gathering on May 24-25th, 2023 at the Dakota Dunes Hotel. 

A gathering to bring together the Oceti Sakowin - Seven Council Fires of the Dakota, Nakota and Lakota from across the US and Canada to share in best practices in reclamation, revitalization, preservation and strengthening of our languages.

Whitecap History to be Showcased at Western Development Museum

Through our relationship with the Western Development Museum, Whitecap's history will be showcased as part of an exhibit scheduled to open to the public this fall. The exhibit will showcase historical artifacts and family photos of the Whitecap Dakota Nation, and highlight history through our indigenous perspective. Whitecap Dakota Votes to Become First Self-Governing Indigenous Nation in Saskatchewan

Chief Darcy Bear, along with Councillors Dwayne Eagle and Frank Royal, are pleased to announce that the Members of Whitecap Dakota First Nation (WDFN) have successfully concluded their community approval vote to become a self-governing Indigenous nation. The vote, held on October 6th and 7th via in-person voting at Whitecap and in Saskatoon together with an on-line virtual vote, resulted in 92% member support to adopt a WDFN Constitution and mandate Chief and Council to sign the Governance Agreement...
