Hours of Work: 8:00AM – 4:30PM
Total Hours: 37.5 hrs. per week
Salary Range: Competitive

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the CEO, the Director will ensure high-quality, culturally grounded education that reflects Dakota language, culture, and values, and support strong student outcomes from early childhood through adulthood.

KEY DUTIES

The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. The employee may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. In accordance with standards of WDN and reporting to the WDN Chief Executive Officer, key duties include:

Leadership & Strategy

• Lead the development and execution of WDN’s education vision, strategy, and policies

• Advise Chief & Council and senior leadership on education priorities and governance

• Work in close partnership with senior leadership, school administrators, Elders, community members, and external education partners

• Drive long-term planning for programs, staffing, and infrastructure

• Champion student success, including literacy and numeracy outcomes

Programs & Services

• Oversee all education programming, including:

• Early Childhood Education (WELC)

• K–12 education

• Post-secondary supports

• Adult and continuing education

• Dakota language and cultural programming

• Monitor program performance and implement continuous improvements

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, oversee, and support education staff

• Foster a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing work environment

Financial & Operational Management

• Develop and manage budgets with accountability and transparency

• Oversee funding proposals, reporting, and compliance requirements

• Identify and secure external funding opportunities

Community & Partnerships

• Cultivate strong relationships with families, Elders, and community members

• Support student wellbeing through inclusive and culturally grounded services

• Maintain partnerships with school boards, post-secondary institutions, Tribal councils,

related government agencies, and other First Nations education organizations

• Represent WDN in regional and national education forums

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Indigenous Studies, Public Administration, or a related field

• 5–10 years of progressive leadership experience in education

• Experience in education governance, curriculum development, program implementation and service delivery, and budgeting

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong understanding of First Nations cultures, traditions, and education systems

• Proven commitment to advancing student success

• Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills

• Strong financial management and strategic planning abilities

• Experience with program evaluation and continuous improvement

Additional Requirements

• Knowledge of Dakota language and culture is an asset

• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

• Successful Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Applicants should note that WDN does not currently participate in the Saskatchewan Immigrant

Nominee Program (SINP) for this type of position and will not support a SINP job approval.
