Whitecap Dakota Government is led by Chief Darcy Bear and four Councillors elected every four years for the 2024-2028 term, who govern using accountable practices and transparency, meet formally at least monthly to pass decisions on programs and policies, and have established advisory committees to support community projects and initiatives. In April 2023, Whitecap Dakota Nation members voted to amend the Whitecap Dakota Self-Government Agreement into a treaty that supports the Nation's sovereignty and inherent right to self-government and recognizes WDN as Aboriginal Peoples under the Canadian Constitution.
