POSITION OVERVIEW

WDN is seeking a talented and motivated Term General Labourer to join our dynamic team. This role offers an opportunity to support the Public Works department by assisting with community maintenance, repairs, projects, waste and recycling collection, and other hands-on duties that help keep Whitecap Dakota Nation safe, clean, and well maintained.

KEY DUTIES

The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. The employee may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. In accordance with standards of WDN and reporting to the WDN Director of Public Works, the Employee will:

• Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, snow blowers, powered clippers, carpentry tools, and other various small power tools.
• Support community garbage and recycling collection at community buildings, properties, roadways, and private housing.
• Perform snow removal and lawn maintenance for both residential and commercial properties.
• Assist with community beautification projects as assigned.
• Assist with repairs to community residential and commercial buildings, both internal and external structures, maintain doors, windows, furniture, and other items as directed.
• Prepare and/or paint surfaces for painting as directed.
• Assist Housing employees to complete both minor and large-scale repairs/renovations.
• Assist in maintenance and repairs of municipal vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
• Load and unload vehicles with various materials.
• Adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and safe work practices, including the successful completion of required Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) training.
• Other related duties as assigned by their supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must meet the candidacy requirements:
  • Be a First Nations Status individual;
  • Ordinarily resident on reserve; and,
  • Be currently unemployed or under employed.
• On-the-job training is provided.
• Ability and willingness to learn new skills.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
• Must have WHMIS certification or be able to complete WHMIS training provided by the WDN to attain certification.
• Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment, power tools, and a motorized vehicle.
• Effective communication skills with supervisors and other staff are essential.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Preference will be given to candidates with a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Applicants should note that WDN does not currently participate in the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) for this type of position and will not support a SINP job approval.
