Economic Development

The Whitecap Dakota Mission Statement:

“To create an economically self-sustaining community with financially independent members through the effective use of economic tools that maximize the available resources, respect the Dakota culture and protect the environment while protecting and enhancing inherent rights.”

Partnerships with First Nations and non-First Nations organizations have been key to the economic development occurring at Whitecap Dakota First Nation and they’re an integral part of the sustainable economic development strategy for our community. Our partnership arrangements have created mentoring programs, employment agreements and business developments with a number of private and public organizations. But some of our most exciting opportunities are yet to come. Please see below for details on specific public works and economic development initiatives

Dakota Dunes Casino & Resort

Whitecap has zoned 1,000 acres of the reserve lands for commercial development and completed a master development plan that includes a destination resort development – Dakota Dunes Casino and Resort. The cornerstone of the development is Dakota Dunes Golf Links, an 18-hole championship design awarded the “Best New Canadian Course, 2005” by Golf Digest magazine. Resort amenities include additional golf holes; a 100,000 square foot casino and entertainment complex, a hotel and spa, resort residential; a campground and retail services.

In addition to the resort development, other commercial, recreational and light industrial developments are included in the plans. Partnership and investment opportunities for public and private organizations abound in tourism and other sectors of our economy.

Infrastructure

An integral part of our economic development and business attraction strategy is our first rate infrastructure services designed to support current and future needs. Whitecap is strategically located along Provincial Highway #219, providing direct and quick access to The City of Saskatoon to the north and to the excellent recreational opportunities at Lake Diefenbaker to the south. Direct access from the Whitecap Reserve to Highway #11 provides routing to and from Regina.

Whitecap has an abundant supply of good quality groundwater and a new water treatment plant ensures a sufficient and safe supply for all future commercial and residential developments. Provincial electrical and natural gas utilities service the entire Reserve lands. Fiber optic data service and a cellular telephone tower positioned on the Reserve provide all commercial developments with fully modern communications systems.

The network of roads within the community is continuously being upgraded to service the growing developments. All commercial developments will be serviced with fully paved roads connecting to the main highway. A fully equipped Whitecap Public Works Department ensures continuous maintenance and immediate service for access in all types of weather.
